Pro Bono Consulting
The Stony Brook University Consulting Club (SBUCC) offers pro bono consulting services for all interested clients (ex: life sciences/biotech industry, etc.). We connect engaged, qualified members with entrepreneurs, small businesses, and nonprofits who are in need of support services. We focus on advisory services including, but not limited to: business plan development, advertising, market research, financial and risk analysis and operational feasibility. We integrate the newest scientific and market trends, digital media and student innovation.
Interested in working with an SBUCC pro bono team? Please contact the SBUCC executive board.
Teams
Teams are comprised of 3-5 members with diverse backgrounds. Participating members demonstrate a solid track record of scholastic, extracurricular, and professional achievements, as well as being well-rounded, down-to-earth individuals with strong problem solving and leadership skills. When paired with an exceptional motivation to learn, our teams deliver useful, actionable results to our clients.
Project Definition
Projects are conducted over 12-15 weeks during the Fall and/or Spring semester and Summer. Prior to undertaking a project, we work with our clients to determine expectations and define deliverables. All projects are evaluated and approved by client representatives, the SBUCC executive board, and advising faculty from Stony Brook University.
Projects must have a defined problem and scope. Upon completion, clients will receive an oral and written presentation of findings with the expectation that results will be considered for implementation by the appropriate organizational decision makers.
Implementation & Impact
We pride ourselves on our ability to provide practical, useful solutions that will have a direct impact on the root cause. Our teams, while independent, work closely with the client in order to best understand key underlying issues, gather feedback, adjust our approach as necessary, and finally, arrive at actionable, implementation-ready solutions for our clients. Project workload is expected to average 30 – 45 hrs per week across a team of 5-7 SBUCC consultants-in-training.
Testimonial
Studying business theories can only get you so far. I was amazed at how useful I felt; how I could actually help our client develop their business strategy over the next 3 years. Having this experience (as challenging, yet exciting as it was) has convinced me that this is definitely what I want to be doing for the rest of my life.
