The mission of the Stony Brook University Consulting Club (SBUCC) is to provide members with an understanding of the opportunities in management consulting, and the preparation to become a competitive candidate for consultant positions. (e.g. the application/interview process).
Folnetti Alvarez
President
Folnetti, a University of Maryland, College Park graduate, is a PhD student in the Molecular and Cellular Pharmacology program at Stony Brook University (SBU). His thesis project involves investigating the role of BST-2/Tetherin and extracellular vesicles in carcinogenesis and chemo-resistance/progression of breast cancer. As a Scholars in Biomedical Sciences Fellow at SBU, he has translated his basic cancer research project to one with patient-oriented outcomes that can lead to improvement of cancer patient treatments. Apart from his training in basic and clinical research, he is building business acumen for a potential career in the pharma and/or biotech consulting industry. He is passionate in finding solutions and providing adequate easy-to-follow deliverables to our diverse client base in order to meet their needs and objectives. Folnetti is an avid runner and cyclist.

Erika Deppenschmidt
Vice President
Erika is a Ph.D. Candidate in Molecular and Cellular Pharmacology (MCP) program studying the muscle stem cells in vitro. Erika is currently a Scholars in Biomedical Sciences trainee working on a clinically translatable project using patient derived iPSCs. At Stony Brook, she is currently the vice president of SBUCC, the MCP student representative, a MCP social media committee member, and FACES committee member. Erika is also an active mentor to local 10th and 11th grade students, where her lessons focus on bringing tangible science to students virtually, using common household items, through the High School Women in Science and Engineering program. Upon graduation, Erika is very interested in pursuing a career within life/health sciences consulting. In her free time during her Ph.D. career, she founded the "Goaled Minded Mentorship Program'' and co-founded "Sisterhood of Traveling Mentors" while also being staffed on 3 different consulting pro-bono opportunities. For fun, Erika loves to travel any chance she can get, go to live concerts, work out and spend time with her family, friends, and cat!

Abhay Kanodia

Abhay completed his undergraduate degree in Biotechnology in 2014 at SRM University, India. He obtained his M.S. degree in Molecular and Cell Biology from Brandeis University in 2016. Subsequently, he worked at Sanofi- Genzyme and then at Dana Farber Cancer Institute as a laboratory technician. His research experience has piqued his interest in understanding the tumor microenvironment and immunotherapy. His dissertation research is being carried out in the lab of Scott Powers and focuses on inhibiting the phenotypic changes caused by oncogenic cooperation of gene mutations during carcinogenesis. Furthermore, he is very interested in developing a business acumen and hopes to enter healthcare consulting. He loves hiking, traveling, cooking and binging Netflix.
Xinan is a fourth-year PhD student in Applied Mathematics and Statistics at Stony Brook University. Her research mainly focuses on applications of mathematical methods in neurosciences and medical imaging, collaborating with medical doctors and scientists at Yale School of Medicine and Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center. She obtained her bachelor’s degree in Mathematics in 2017 at University of Science and Technology of China. She is very interested in consulting and considers it as a future career option. Her hobbies are painting and skiing.
